name is Jake, but I consider myself an "adoptee for life"!!! I'm
a female adoptee, who has been reunited with my birth parents but I still help others in their
search whenever I can. I would *love* for every searching adoptee and
birth parent to eventually be able to reunite! So many searches are
"state specific" - what you do in your search will depend on the
laws and the "unspoken attitude" toward adoptees and birth
parents in search in the state you are searching in. For instance,
California and New York are very difficult to search in, but you can apply
for your original birth certificate in Kansas! I thought the best way to
help others search would be to set up lists for EACH state, where
searchers can exchange views, opinions, search techniques that work (and
what you have found doesn't work), etc. PLEASE don't join a list if you
are a paid searcher...all posts to these lists are moderated to make sure
that only approved posts go through, and very rarely will it be allowed to
mention a paid searcher; the reason being that many are just out for $,
and will only do what you yourself can do, through hard work and effort!
